Ayurvedic care for pre-natal and post-natal wellbeing Care offered: Pre-natal care, Post-natal recovery, Lactation support, Back pain and fatigue after delivery, Emotional wellbeing

Pregnancy and the months after childbirth ask a great deal of your body. Are you feeling tired, anxious or achy? Are you struggling to regain your strength after delivery? Rest and supplements help, but many mothers are left with back pain, low energy, disturbed sleep and a sense of being depleted long after the baby arrives.

At Marmmayogi, we offer gentle Ayurvedic care for both stages. Ayurveda treats pregnancy and the period after delivery as phases in their own right, each with its own diet, routine and therapies. Our aim is to nourish and steady you, support your wellbeing and the healthy progression of pregnancy, and help your body recover gradually and fully. This care is given alongside, not instead of, your regular obstetric check-ups.

What is pre-natal and post-natal care?

Pre-natal care supports the mother and baby through pregnancy. Post-natal care supports the mother’s recovery after delivery, traditionally over the first six weeks and beyond.

Common concerns include:

  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Nausea and indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Back, hip and leg pain
  • Swelling in the feet
  • Poor sleep, anxiety and mood swings
  • After delivery: exhaustion, body aches and back pain
  • Weak digestion
  • Low breast milk supply
  • Weak abdominal and pelvic muscles
  • Hair fall and low mood

What does Ayurveda say about pregnancy and the post-natal period?

Classical Ayurveda describes a month-by-month routine for the pregnant woman (Garbhini Paricharya) and a dedicated period of care after childbirth (Sutika Paricharya).

During pregnancy, the body’s resources go into nourishing the baby. Digestion is often sensitive, and Vata, the dosha that governs movement and the nervous system, tends to rise. This may show up as back pain, constipation, anxiety and disturbed sleep.

After delivery, the body undergoes significant physical changes and may experience depletion of energy and strength. Vata is aggravated, digestion may be weak and the tissues require nourishment. Ayurveda places particular importance on the weeks after delivery to support recovery and help restore strength and balance.

How can Ayurveda support pre-natal and post-natal care?

Our approach is nourishing, warming and gentle. Every plan is made by the Chief Physician after an in-person assessment of your stage of pregnancy or recovery, your medical history and your obstetric reports.

Step 1: Nourish and support digestion

We begin with an easily digestible, Vata-pacifying diet and gentle Ayurvedic medicines suited to your stage of pregnancy. These support appetite, ease nausea and constipation, and help you build strength.

Step 2: Soothe the body and mind

Gentle oil massage on areas the doctor considers suitable, along with head massage and, where appropriate, Shirodhara, may help relieve aches, ease anxiety and improve sleep. Breathing practices (pranayama) calm the nervous system.

Step 3: Prepare the body

Gentle yoga, meditation and breathing practices improve posture, flexibility and breath control, and help you stay calm and steady.

Step 1: Restore warmth and nourishment

Warm medicated oil massage, mild herbal fomentation and warm herbal baths ease body aches and support recovery. A warm, nourishing diet and Ayurvedic medicines help rebuild digestion and strength.

Step 2: Strengthen the back, abdomen and pelvis

Therapeutic massage and supportive therapies help restore tone and relieve back and hip pain. For mothers who have had a caesarean delivery, therapies begin only once the wound has healed and the doctor permits.

Step 3: Calm the nervous system

Shirodhara, head and foot massage, pranayama and meditation help release stress, improve sleep and support emotional wellbeing.

Step 4: Support lactation and long-term recovery

Diet and herbal support, prescribed by the doctor, help support lactation. Marma therapy, gentle yoga and rejuvenating medicines support recovery, restore strength and promote overall wellbeing.

Now the 3 reasons why patients from 25+ countries trust us.

Reason one: Marma Ayurveda

Like most Ayurveda hospitals we also do the the oil baths, massages and heat packs. What differentiates us is that, we also add-on a specialized branch of Kerala Ayurveda called Marma Ayurveda.

What is Marma Ayurveda? It is common knowledge that healing is much faster when the mind energy supports the treatment on the physical body. The mind-body is connected by energy channels which get blocked or weakened due to the disease. By cleaning and strengthening these channels through Marma Ayurveda, the mind energy flows freely towards the diseased parts. At Marmmayogi, Marma Ayurveda is done along with the Ayurveda treatments, making the massages and therapies far more effective. With Marma Yoga and Marma Meditation, the additional focus on mind-body channels is complete. All this makes the healing process faster. (KNOW MORE ABOUT MARMA AYURVEDA)

Reason two: Personalised attention and treatment

While the common Ayurveda treatments (massages and oil baths) are done by trained therapists, Marma therapy needs years of practice. The chief physician Dr. Manoj, who comes with a family tradition of 250 years, has been personally trained by his grandfather. Dr. Manoj has to do it personally on each patient. Since there is a limit to the number of patients Dr. Manoj can personally attend, we are a small hospital with limited number of rooms. With the doctor and his family staying on the premises, our patients are also pleasantly surprised with the family atmosphere and personalized attention.

Marma Therapy

Marma Therapy by the Doctor

While Traditional Kerala Ayurveda Therapy is done by Therapists, the Marma Therapy is done by Dr Manoj specific to the health issue.

Reason three: Special proprietary medicines

With a family tradition of 250 years, many highly effective medicines have been handed down over generations. These medicines are not available outside. Fresh herbs collected from the herbal garden are used very frequently in the treatments. All this makes the process far more effective.

Ongoing care

After discharge, it’s important to continue with prescribed medicines, follow a nourishing diet, rest well, and regularly practise the recommended gentle yoga and pranayama. Follow-up consultations with the Chief Physician help adjust your care as your body recovers.

A note on safety

Ayurvedic care here complements modern obstetric care. Please continue your regular check-ups and share your reports with us. Some therapies used for other conditions are not used during pregnancy. Please seek immediate medical attention for bleeding, severe pain, reduced baby movements or fever.
